DFTC3! Today we cover the season three premiere, “It Happened”. We start with some exciting offseason updates and then get to our framework around psychiatric abolition, which is necessary as this season is sooooo Radley focused. We hate a lot of things in this episode and are just so sad for Emily. In DFTC tradition we speculate about so many things we can’t remember: Who dug up Bethany’s body? Did Melissa kill Garrett? And has Spencer been too busy this summer to have sex? We realize we might run out of chickpea recipes at some point so we could use some help with those or if anyone knows Adam Lambert!

Welcome to our amazing new website, which was made by web developer Rainbow Forge – we highly recommend working with them, they are so great and have sliding scale prices. We also have a new email address, which is hello@chickpeaspod.com! Send us your thoughts on the podcast and/or chickpea recipes!

Chickpeas Oh My Gosh!
Cameron (and Deepa) Get Academic On Us
  • Our published paper!!! It’s called “Pass it to your girlfriend!”: A collaborative autoethnography of a friendship through women’s sports fandom”
  • Another cool paper from the same journal that actually talks about PLL
    Psychiatric Abolition
    • In-care-ceration, a six-episode documentary podcast by friends of the pod Leah Montange and Meredith Ruff, which unpacks various ways that the mental healthcare and criminal justice systems are entangled, featuring voices and perspectives of people who are currently or formerly locked up and advocates in the healthcare and criminal justice systems
    • No New Washington Prisons’ Disability Justice FAQ (which Cameron helped create), which explores sanism, mad justice, and psych abolition
    Deepa’s Literary Analysis
    • Ezra is probably correct that no one has finished James Joyce’s Ulysses
    • We got a lot of Boo Radley references in this episode, especially related to Radley Sanatorium; Deepa once again could not find much looking at To Kill A Mockingbird from a disability justice framework except for this book, which has two chapters that might have that lens
Things We Referenced Related to PLL
    • The show’s pilot episode and the way the season three premiere references it
    • The last episode of season two and the parallels between Bethany’s and Maya’s bodies being discovered
    Fashion Analysis

Meanwhile, we both surprisingly disliked Hanna’s style: Cameron hates her crimped hair, while Deepa loathed the necklace and blazer she was wearing in the boutique
