The long awaited train episode (3.13, “This is A Dark Ride”) is here, and so are our besties, Ellis, KC, and Dylan! We mention sanism, discuss bisexuality, and revisit Cameron’s cast for Deepa’s PLL birthday party. We reminisce about some of our past Halloween costumes and once again remember that Pastor Ted is a parent. Post-feminism is bad, Spencer! We massively fail at coming up with catchy public health slogans, but we make up for it with one about police abolition instead. It’s a good thing Adam Lambert didn’t join us because two of our friends raise some major red flags. Happy ghost train! 👻🚂

Chickpeas Oh My Gosh!
A beautiful chocolate cake with a replica of Ali’s grave on it. Some flowers are placed on the grave and there is a red shovel stuck in the cake. There are also green coconut flakes around the cake to look like grass. KC is a genius
Deepa’s Musical/Literary Analysis
  • Deepa has a theory that Mona is the Phantom and Caleb is Raoul from Phantom of the Opera (Dylan agrees)
  • Spencer’s “You know how to whistle, don’t you?” line is from the movie To Have and Have Not with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall; it’s based on a Hemingway book but it doesn’t follow the plot so we don’t have to talk about it (except to mention that Hemingway was a fuck)!
Cameron Gets (Mildly) Academic On Us
  • There is a huge difference between modern post-feminism, which is bad, and post-modern feminism, which is cool!
Our Own Halloween Lore

One Halloween, Cameron found creepy Ali flyers while out on the town for Halloween; another year, Cameron’s foot was in a boot, so she dressed up as Hanna Marin at a funeral after getting hit by a car

Other favorite costumes of ours include Deepa being Eve from WALL-E and Appa from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Cameron as the Long Island Medium (KC, Ellis, and Dylan couldn’t find pictures of theirs 😢)

Things We Referenced Related to PLL
  • Janel Parrish playing the older sister in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
  • The PLL wiki suggests that Mona is meeting with Charlotte in Radley and that is who she gives the pills and bullets (why? who knows)
  • The ghost child is a call-back to the creepy story that Ali tells in the Halloween episode in season two (but NOT played by the same actor)
  • The Ali masks, which are made by that one creepy dude in exchange for secrets
  • Spencer’s heinous Mary Queen of Scots costume
Things We Referenced Completely Unrelated to PLL
  • How ugly the vampires look when they transition in Buffy
  • Snakes on a Plane – the movie as well as the song
Fashion Analysis

For worst, everyone chose Hanna and Aria’s weird pre-Halloween looks – except for Deepa, who limited analysis to the costumes and therefore chose Aria’s, not because it looked bad, but because she was Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby
